Once upon a time there was a mother, named Debbie, who loved to eat desserts. She also loved to bake. One day she decided to put her two loves together and as a result her passion for baking deserts was born.
Hello, I'm Debbie! It has been over thirty years, a dozen cake decorating classes and countless hours of baking since I discovered my true love for baking delicious desserts. It all got started when I was a newly wed and took a class on molded chocolates. My interest was sparked while working with chocolate covered cherries, peanut butter cups, coconut bonbons and chocolate covered caramels. I mean come on, who wouldn't fall in love when working with chocolate? My passion snowballed and continued to find it's roots when my kids were just toddlers. One of the mothers in our playgroup was a cake decorator for a local grocery store and I absolutely loved to watch her work. She taught me several of her tips and when it comes down to it, she was the inspiration for this crazy addiction of mine.
While my kids were growing I played in the kitchen with cookie recipes, special Christmas goodies, delicate pastries and even tried my hand at a birthday cake or two. But it wasn't until my kids were grown and I found myself an empty-nester, when I decided it was time to find something to fill the void left by their absence. Of course I turned to my love for dessert. I took some cake decorating classes and discovered I really had a knack for it. I was also introduced to the art of cookie bouquets and once again, fell in love. Cupcake bouquets fascinated me. It wasn't long until people got wind of my abilities. Next thing I know I am crazy enough to accept a job making a wedding cake for a friend. From that moment it was all down hill. The cat had been let out of the bag. So and so tells so and so that I have this talent and one job leads to another until I am being asked if I have a website with information on my work. Wow! When did that happen?
In the past 15 years I have had the privilege of doing dozens of wedding cakes and I don't even know how many special occasion cakes for friends, family and friends of friends and family. Every year my husband looks forward to his annual Danish Pastry. Chocolate rum cakes are my brother's favorite and Christmas isn't Christmas without the fudge and toffee and cookies and of course caramels. Oh YUM! Whenever there is a bridal shower or birthday party I am always the first one asked to bring the cake, molded chocolates, eclairs or cream puffs. And of course there has to be a cute cookie bouquet for the centerpiece on the table.
At one point, when the scale tipped 250 pounds, I knew I had to figure out a way to avoid eating my own desserts. I didn't want to give up making them, just eating them. So I looked into starting my own business. I would make the delicious desserts, someone else would pay me for the privilege of taking them home and eating them. A win win situation. I am a woman in love with baking who loves to lend out her talent to friends and family OR anyone who asks, as long as I am not the one who eats it. Since making this minor adjustment I am proud to say the scale shows a much more flattering number.
Due to the many requests for a way of viewing images of what I do, I decided to start this blog. A non professional way of bragging about this little love of mine. Not only can this blog serve as a photo gallery of what has already been accomplished, but it just might give those who view it ideas on what to get the person who has everything, the next time they are in need of a gift.
So take a look around and feel free to let me know what you think! To view galleries of the different desserts I have done, just click on their link to the right. If you like what you see and have an occasion you need my services for, please feel free to e-mail me! I have a solution for any occasion. Questions, comments, suggestions and praise are always welcome! Just send it to: firstname.lastname@example.org
